Overview
Turnstile installers covering Cambridgeshire and East Anglia
BDi Advance supplies, installs and maintains turnstiles for commercial, industrial and sports sites across Cambridgeshire and East Anglia. A turnstile is an efficient way to control pedestrian access: it lets one authorised person through at a time and connects to your access control system, so the same cards, fobs or credentials that open your doors also open the turnstile.
- Local engineers based in Huntingdon, covering Cambridgeshire and East Anglia
- Single and double full height turnstiles, for internal and external use
- Uni-directional or bi-directional, with mechanical or electro-mechanical control
- Combined with disabled or pedestrian access gates where needed
- Turnstiles can be linked to the access control systems we install, including Paxton and Avigilon
- Maintenance contracts with a full check twice a year as standard

Costs
What affects the cost of a turnstile installation?
No two entrances cost the same to control, which is why we survey before we quote. These are the things that move the price.
Type and number of turnstiles
Biggest factor
A single full height turnstile costs less than a double unit or several lanes side by side. We size the installation around how many people need to pass through at busy times, such as shift changes.
Internal or external
Site specific
External turnstiles in a perimeter fence line need groundworks and a finish that stands up to the weather. Internal units in a reception or lobby need less preparation but more attention to appearance.
Accessible and pedestrian gates
Usually needed
Turnstiles do not suit wheelchair users, pushchairs or equipment, so most entrances need an accessible gate alongside. It can be built into the same installation.
Access control
Varies
If you already have access control, the turnstile can often be connected to it. A new site needs readers, a controller and software as well as the turnstile.
Control type and configuration
Varies
Mechanical or electro-mechanical control, one-way or two-way operation, and trombone or straight arm configurations all change the equipment needed.
Maintenance
Ongoing
Turnstiles are moving equipment and, outside, are exposed to all weathers. A maintenance contract includes a full check twice a year as standard.

Turnstile access control
Turnstiles for pedestrian access control
A turnstile controls pedestrian access at the point where people enter a site or building. It stops anyone without authorised credentials from walking in behind someone else and, when linked to access control, gives you a record of who has come and gone.
We install turnstiles for reception areas and lobbies, as well as full height bi-directional turnstiles, which are particularly effective in perimeter fence lines and alongside disabled access gates.

Access control and integration
A turnstile is only as useful as the access control behind it, so we set up who can pass, where and when, before we hand over.
One set of credentials
Staff use the same cards, fobs or other credentials at the turnstile as at your doors, and access can be granted or removed centrally.
Not every entrance needs a full height turnstile. Where an accessible gate or a controlled door does the job, we will say so.
Access control systems
Access control systems we install
The turnstile is the physical barrier; the access control system decides who gets through. Turnstiles can be linked to the access control systems we install, including Paxton and Avigilon. We will confirm what is possible for your system at the site visit.
Our access control installations are carried out under our SSAIB certification, and our engineers commission and support the turnstile and the access control together, so you have one company to call.

Turnstile types
Types of turnstile and pedestrian gate
The right option depends on where it goes, how many people use it and how much security the entrance needs.
Most installations use one of these four, and many combine two, such as a turnstile with an accessible gate beside it.
Single full height turnstile
A full height rotating unit that lets one person through at a time, installed internally or externally.
Best for: perimeter fence lines and secure areas.
Worth knowing: it does not suit wheelchair users or deliveries, so an accessible gate is usually installed alongside.
Double full height turnstile
Two passages in one unit, for entrances where more people need to pass through at once.
Best for: busier entrances, such as shift changes at industrial sites.
Worth knowing: it needs more space than a single unit, so we check the footprint at the site visit.
Accessible and pedestrian gates
A gate controlled by the same access control system, for wheelchair users, pushchairs and equipment.
Best for: alongside any turnstile.
Worth knowing: turnstiles can be built to incorporate disabled or pedestrian access and exit gates in one installation.
Reception turnstiles
Turnstiles for reception areas and lobbies, linked to the same access control as your doors.
Best for: offices and headquarters receptions.
Worth knowing: we designed and installed a reception turnstile system at a client's new headquarters in Bedford.
Turnstile design and installation
How an installation works
Quotations start with a free site visit. We look at the entrance, how many people use it and when, and how it will connect to your access control, then design the installation to suit the site and the budget rather than quoting blind.

SSAIB certified access control installers
The access control that runs your turnstiles is installed under our SSAIB certification, which covers access control, CCTV and intruder alarms, and we are a Paxton Gold Partner. If your site has particular requirements for its entrances, such as a client requirement, tell us at the survey stage so the design can take them into account.

Each site has its own priorities, from controlling shift changes at a factory gate to managing visitors in a busy reception. We design around how people actually move through the entrance.
“We have used Advance for all our security needs at our new headquarters in Bedford and so they were the first people we went to for advice on the Turnstiles installation. From the initial design to the final installation, I could not fault them. The works were completed on time and within budget, and the finish was far better than we ever imagined.”

We do not quote turnstiles from a price list. We come out, look at the entrance, how people use it and what access control is already in place, and then design to suit the site and the budget. There is no charge for the visit.

Frequently asked questions
A turnstile access control system combines a physical turnstile with an access control system. The turnstile lets one person through at a time, and the access control system decides who is allowed through, using cards, fobs or other credentials.
