Costs
What affects the cost of an ANPR camera system?
No two sites cost the same to equip, which is why we survey before we quote. These are the things that move the price.
Number of lanes and cameras
Biggest factor
Each entry and exit lane normally needs its own ANPR camera, so a single gate costs far less than a car park with several entrances.
Standalone or integrated
Varies
A standalone camera that logs number plates costs least. Linking ANPR to barriers, gates, intercoms or access control adds equipment, cabling and set-up.
Site conditions
Site specific
Camera position, approach speed, lighting and distance to the lane decide which camera is needed and whether extra poles, lighting or cabling are required.
Software and reporting
Varies
Authorised vehicle lists, alerts, reports and record retention are set up in software, and multi-site systems need central management.
Groundworks
If required
New barriers, ground loops or ducting for cables add civil works to the installation.
Maintenance
Ongoing
Planned maintenance keeps cameras clean, aligned and reading accurately. Our maintenance contracts include a full check twice a year as standard.

ANPR camera systems
ANPR CCTV camera systems for business
An ANPR camera captures an image of each vehicle's number plate and uses optical character recognition (OCR) software to turn it into text. The system logs the registration with the date and time, checks it against a list of authorised vehicles, and can open a barrier or gate, raise an alert or simply record the movement.
Systems range from a single standalone camera at one entrance to fully integrated ANPR covering several entrances or sites, with vehicle permissions managed centrally. We design each one around your site, your vehicle numbers and what you need the records for.

Monitoring and reporting
ANPR is only useful if the right people see the right information, so we set up alerts, reports and access rights before we hand over.
Real-time alerts and reports
Get an alert when an unknown or flagged vehicle arrives, and keep a time-stamped log for car park auditing, deliveries and incident investigation.
Linked to your CCTV
ANPR can sit within your wider CCTV system, so each number plate read can be matched to recorded footage of the vehicle.
Not every site needs a fully integrated system. Where a standalone camera does the job we will say so.
Integration
ANPR access control for barriers and gates
Our ANPR access control systems can be integrated with automatic barriers, gates, intercoms and access control, so authorised vehicles enter without stopping and unauthorised vehicles are kept out of restricted areas.
We also install the TagMaster ANPR camera range. See our TagMaster ANPR cameras page for the products.
Barriers and gates
Hands-free vehicle entry
ANPR can open automatic barriers and gates for authorised vehicles and log every vehicle that enters or leaves.
Access control
One set of permissions
Linked to your access control system, vehicle and staff permissions can be managed together and changed centrally.
CCTV
A record when you need it
Combined with CCTV, number plate reads can be matched to recorded footage of the vehicle and its approach.
Uses
Common uses for ANPR
ANPR cameras are commonly used where vehicle monitoring and controlled access are essential.
Most commercial installations cover one or more of these four uses, and a system can be extended as your needs change. For more on how ANPR supports site security beyond the car park, read ANPR security: more than just parking.
Car parks
Records vehicles entering and leaving a car park with timestamps, so you can track parking duration and manage who can park.
Best for: business parks and staff or customer car parks.
Worth knowing: clear signage is expected wherever ANPR is in use.
Gates and barriers
Opens a barrier or gate automatically for vehicles on an authorised list, with no fobs or cards to hand out.
Best for: gated premises, depots and staff entrances.
Worth knowing: visitors and unknown vehicles still need an intercom or manual override.
Site security
Logs every vehicle arriving at a commercial or industrial site and raises an alert for unknown or flagged vehicles.
Best for: industrial facilities, yards and sites with valuable stock or plant.
Worth knowing: alerts only help if someone is set up to receive them and act.
Audit and reporting
Builds a time-stamped record of vehicle movements for deliveries, contractor visits and incident investigation.
Best for: warehouses, logistics and multi-site operations.
Worth knowing: agree how long records are kept before the system goes live.

How an ANPR installation works
Quotations start with a free site visit. We look at each entrance, the approach, the lighting and how vehicles use the site, then design the system to suit the site and the budget rather than quoting blind.

ANPR and data protection
Vehicle registration numbers can be personal data, so an ANPR system should have a clear purpose and be proportionate to it. The ICO's guidance on ANPR covers lawful use, transparency, retention and access to records, and the Surveillance Camera Code of Practice sets out similar principles. In practice that means deciding what the system is for, controlling who can see the records, setting a retention period and putting up clear signage. We set the system up to support those decisions, but responsibility for compliance stays with you as the operator, so take your own advice where you need it.
