Overview
Security system maintenance covering Cambridgeshire and East Anglia
BDi Advance maintains commercial CCTV, access control, intruder alarms and automatic gates, barriers, turnstiles and road blockers for businesses across Cambridgeshire and East Anglia. Security systems that do not have a maintenance contract fail much more often than those that are serviced regularly, so we offer maintenance contracts tailored to your site that keep your equipment in good working order.

Costs
What affects the cost of a maintenance contract?
Every site is different, which is why we survey before we quote. These are the things that move the price.
Which systems are covered
Biggest factor
CCTV, access control, intruder alarms and gates each have their own checks. A contract can cover one system or several.
Size of each system
Varies
The number of cameras, doors, detectors, gates and barriers sets how long each visit takes.
How often we visit
Twice a year as standard
A full check twice a year is standard. Some systems, sites or insurer and police-response requirements need more.
Age and condition
Site specific
Older equipment, and gates and barriers exposed to the weather and heavy use, need more attention to keep working reliably.
Existing systems
Survey first
We take over systems installed by other companies. The survey tells us what is on site and its condition before we quote.
Repairs and parts
As needed
Repairs and replacement parts found during a visit are quoted separately, so you know the cost before any work goes ahead.

Planned preventative maintenance
What a maintenance visit includes
As part of a planned preventative maintenance contract, our engineers carry out a thorough service of your system's components. What each visit covers depends on the systems on site. These are the typical checks.
- Cameras and housings: connections, coverage, movement, performance and focus
- Recording equipment: quality of playback and retrieved images
- Door mechanisms, readers and cabling: cleaned and checked
- Control units, software and displays: functions and performance
- Intruder alarm detectors, batteries and communication links: tested
- Power supplies and back-up units: condition and performance
- Alarm inputs: operation and response
- Site and lighting assessment, and a record of the visit

Why regular maintenance matters
Security systems that are not maintained fail more often, and a failure usually shows up when you need the system most.
Doors that keep working
Locks, card readers, door contacts and exit switches all need to operate reliably. A failure in any one of them can cause significant disruption, and regular checks catch wear before it becomes a fault.
CCTV images you can use
Data protection guidance expects CCTV to be properly maintained so that it records clear images. Checking focus, coverage and playback keeps your footage fit for purpose.

New and existing systems
Maintaining the systems you already have
We provide maintenance and servicing for both new and existing systems, including systems installed by other companies.
For existing systems, we start by reviewing the installation, so we understand how it is set up and can recommend a practical maintenance plan.
Systems installed by others
Takeovers
We take over and maintain systems installed by other companies, starting with a review of the installation so the contract fits what is on site.
Existing intruder alarms
New and existing systems
We maintain and service intruder alarms whether they are new or already installed, helping them operate correctly and reducing false activations.
Fire alarm systems
Maintenance and modernisation
We were appointed to support the maintenance and ongoing modernisation of the fire alarm system at a busy Cambridge shopping centre.
Systems we maintain
Security systems we maintain
We maintain the main security systems on a commercial site, and each has its own checks.
Contracts are tailored to the systems on your site, whether that is one system or several.
CCTV
Cameras and housings checked for connections, coverage, movement, performance and focus, recordings checked for playback quality, and a site and lighting assessment.
Worth knowing: data protection guidance expects CCTV to be maintained so that it records clear images.
Access control
Door mechanisms, readers and cabling cleaned and checked, the control unit and software checked, and power supplies and back-up units tested.
Worth knowing: the system also needs regular housekeeping so access is granted or denied to the right people.
Intruder alarms
Detectors tested, batteries checked and communication links verified, so the system keeps working correctly and false activations are reduced.
Worth knowing: monitored alarms with police response must be maintained by a certified company to keep their URN.
Gates, barriers and turnstiles
Automatic gates, barriers, turnstiles and road blockers are exposed to the weather and heavy use. Servicing can include on-site fault finding and, for hydraulic systems, fluid and seal changes.
Worth knowing: planned maintenance extends the life of the equipment and keeps it operating reliably.
How maintenance works
How a maintenance contract works
Every maintenance contract starts with a free survey. We look at what is installed, how it is used and its condition, then recommend a maintenance plan to suit the site rather than a one-size contract.
Survey

Contract
A maintenance contract tailored to your systems and your site
Planned visits
A full check twice a year as standard, with a thorough service of every component
Reactive support
24-hour service line and emergency call-out, 365 days a year, plus remote support and diagnostics
Reporting
Each visit documented, with any recommendations explained
SSAIB certified security maintenance
Maintenance of CCTV, intruder alarms and access control is carried out under our SSAIB certification, which covers those three systems. SSAIB is a UKAS-accredited certification body, and monitored intruder alarms with police response need maintenance by a certified company to keep their URN. If your insurer sets conditions on how your systems are maintained, tell us at the survey stage so the contract can take them into account.

Frequently asked questions
Security systems that do not have a maintenance contract fail much more often than those that are serviced regularly. Planned maintenance keeps your equipment in good working order, catches wear before it becomes a fault and, for intruder alarms, reduces the risk of false activations.
