Costs

What affects the cost of a commercial intruder alarm?

No two buildings cost the same to protect, which is why we survey before we quote. These are the things that move the price.

  • Size of the building and number of detectors

    Biggest factor

Every entry point and area that needs covering adds detectors, contacts and set-up time. Covering the routes an intruder would actually use, rather than every room, keeps the cost down.

  • Grade of system

    Varies

Grades run from 1 (low risk) to 4 (high risk). Higher grades are harder to tamper with and cost more, and your insurer may specify the grade you need.

  • Wired or wireless

    Site specific

Wireless systems are quicker to install and cause less disruption. Wired systems are typically preferred for larger or higher-security sites.

  • Signalling and monitoring

    Ongoing cost

An audible-only alarm costs least. Keyholder alerts to your phone, or signalling to a monitoring centre that operates around the clock, add equipment and, for monitoring, an annual charge.

  • Police response

    If required

Police response needs a monitored system, a Unique Reference Number (URN) from the police and regular maintenance by a certified company.

  • Maintenance

    Ongoing

Planned maintenance keeps the system working correctly and reduces false alarms, and monitored systems with police response need it to keep their URN. We recommend a professional service at least once a year.

Commercial intruder alarms

Intruder alarm systems for business

A commercial intruder alarm detects entry to your premises through door contacts, motion detectors and other sensors, sounds an alarm to deter the intruder, and tells the right people. Depending on how it signals, that means keyholders through an app, a monitoring centre that operates around the clock or, for qualifying systems, the police.

We install Orisec intruder alarms, available in wired and wireless versions, and set each system's grade, detection and signalling around your building, what is kept there and your insurer's requirements.

Monitoring and control

An intruder alarm is only as useful as the response it triggers, so we set up who is told, and how, before we hand over.

App control and alerts

Set, unset and check your alarm from your phone, and get an alert as soon as it activates, wherever you are.

Linked to your other systems

An intruder alarm can be linked to CCTV and access control, so an activation is recorded on camera and you can see what caused it.

Not every site needs a monitored alarm. Where keyholder alerts do the job we will say so.

Intruder alarm servicing and maintenance

An alarm that has not been checked for a while is more likely to fail when it matters, or to go off when it should not. We service and maintain the commercial intruder alarms we install and alarms fitted by other companies, and a service visit works through the whole system.

What a service visit covers

Detectors and door contacts are tested across the areas they cover, batteries in the panel, sounders and wireless devices are checked and replaced when near the end of their life, and communication links are verified so an activation still reaches the monitoring centre or your phone. Logged faults, false activations and staff codes, fobs and prox tags can be dealt with at the same visit.

Takeovers and upgrades

We take over intruder alarms installed by other companies, replace ageing control panels, add detectors when a building changes, and upgrade older systems so they can be controlled from your phone. We look at the existing system first, so the quotation reflects what is already there.

Our maintenance contracts include a full check twice a year as standard, backed by a 24-hour manned service line and a 24-hour emergency technician call-out, 365 days a year. More about maintenance

Alarm systems we install

Orisec intruder alarms

We install Orisec intruder alarm systems, with panels, detectors and sounders chosen for each building, and a choice of keypads, fobs, prox tags and a phone app to set and unset them.

Working with one platform properly, rather than a long list superficially, means our engineers know the equipment they are commissioning, which makes servicing, fault-finding and adding to a system later more straightforward.

Wired and wireless

For every type of building

Orisec systems are available in wired and wireless versions. Wireless suits buildings where new cabling would be disruptive, and wired suits larger or higher-security sites.

Maintenance and servicing

App control

Your alarm on your phone

The Orisec ControlPlus app lets authorised users check and control the system remotely and receive alerts when it activates.

What is a modern alarm system?

Graded systems

Matched to the risk

Alarms are graded from 1 to 4 by security level. Many commercial premises need Grade 2 or 3, and your insurer may specify the grade.

Does my business need an intruder alarm?

Alarm types

Types of commercial intruder alarm

The right alarm depends on who needs to know when it goes off, and how quickly they need to act.

Most commercial systems fall into one of these four types, and a system can move up a level as your needs change.

Audible only

Sounds an internal and external alarm to scare off an intruder and alert people nearby.

Best for: low-risk premises with staff or neighbours close by.

Worth knowing: nobody is told automatically, so it relies on someone hearing it.

Keyholder alerts

Sends an alert to nominated keyholders' phones when the alarm activates, and lets you set and unset the system remotely.

Best for: smaller businesses where an owner or manager can respond.

Worth knowing: someone has to see the alert and act on it, day or night.

Monitored alarms

Signals to a monitoring centre that operates around the clock, which contacts your keyholders when an activation is received.

Best for: premises that are empty overnight or at weekends.

Worth knowing: monitoring carries an annual charge, and the centre follows the response plan you agree with it.

Police response

A monitored alarm issued with a Unique Reference Number (URN) by the police, so verified activations can be passed to them.

Best for: higher-risk premises, and where an insurer requires it.

Worth knowing: police response follows national police policy and local force rules, and the system must be installed and maintained by a company certified by a UKAS-accredited body such as NSI or SSAIB.

How an installation works

SSAIB certified intruder alarm installers

Our intruder alarm installation, servicing and maintenance work is carried out under our SSAIB certification, which covers intruder alarms, CCTV and access control. SSAIB is a UKAS-accredited certification body, which police policy requires for alarms that need police response. If your insurer sets conditions on how your premises are protected, tell us at the survey stage so the design can take them into account, rather than leaving you to discover a shortfall at renewal.
