Overview

TagMaster ANPR camera installation and integration

BDi Advance installs TagMaster automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras for commercial sites across Cambridgeshire and East Anglia. TagMaster's CT45 camera reads number plates as vehicles approach, can open a barrier or gate directly through its built-in relay outputs, and passes each read to your access control, CCTV or parking system.

This page covers TagMaster specifically: the CT45, what it suits and how it connects to your barriers and access control. For ANPR in general, including how number plate recognition works and where it is used, see our ANPR cameras page.

Planning

What to decide before installing TagMaster ANPR

Every entrance is different, which is why we survey before we quote. These are the questions that shape the system and the price.

  • Number of lanes and entrances

    Biggest factor

Each entry or exit lane usually needs its own camera. A single CT45 can read in both directions across a lane up to 7 metres wide, which can save a camera where one lane handles entry and exit.

  • What the camera controls

    Site specific

The CT45 can switch a barrier or gate directly through its relay outputs, or pass each read to an access control system over Wiegand. Which suits depends on where your list of permitted vehicles is managed.

  • Front, rear or both plates

    Varies

Two CT45 cameras can be linked to read front and rear plates at the same time, or to cover a very wide lane, which helps in difficult conditions.

  • Links to other systems

    If required

Live video over RTSP can be recorded on your CCTV, and data interfaces such as JSON, XML and UTMC connect to third-party parking and back-office systems.

  • Mounting and cabling

    Site specific

The CT45 is powered over Ethernet (PoE+), so one network cable carries power and data. Poles, brackets and ducting to the camera position are assessed at the survey.

  • Maintenance

    Ongoing

Planned maintenance keeps the camera, barrier and access control working together. Our maintenance contracts include a full check twice a year as standard.

TagMaster

TagMaster ANPR for vehicle access

TagMaster ANPR cameras identify vehicles at an entrance by reading the number plate, so a permitted vehicle can be let through without the driver stopping to present a card or press an intercom. There is nothing to issue to drivers, and every read is logged.

Our installations centre on the TagMaster CT45 ANPR camera, set up to work with the barrier, gate, access control or CCTV already on your site. TagMaster also makes RFID readers; ask us whether they suit your site.

TagMaster CT45 ANPR Camera

Integration with barriers and access control

An ANPR camera is only useful if it connects to something that acts on the read, so we plan the integration before we fit the camera.

Barriers and gates

The CT45's built-in relay outputs can open a barrier or gate as soon as a permitted plate is read, with no separate controller needed for simple entrances.

Access control systems

A Wiegand output lets the camera connect to your access control system like a card reader, so vehicles and people are managed in one place.

Already have barriers or access control? We service, maintain and take over systems installed by other companies, and we check what can be reused at the survey.

The camera we install

TagMaster CT45 ANPR camera

The CT45 is TagMaster's all-integrated ANPR camera, developed for parking, access control, security and traffic applications. The recognition engine runs inside the camera, so no separate server is needed to read plates.

We install the CT45 and set it up for your entrance, from camera position and lens zoom to the connection with your barrier, access control or CCTV.

Built-in recognition

No separate server

TagMaster's Jet recognition engine runs inside the camera and reports a confidence factor with each read, so doubtful reads can be filtered and checked by hand.

ANPR cameras explained

Day and night

Infra-red plate capture

An 850nm infra-red plate camera reads plates in darkness, and an integral colour overview camera records a contextual image of each vehicle.

Commercial CCTV

Quick to set up

One cable, Wi-Fi set-up

PoE+ means one network cable for power and data, and the motorised zoom lenses with autofocus are set up over Wi-Fi from a phone, tablet or laptop.

Access control systems

What it suits

Where TagMaster ANPR fits

TagMaster lists parking, access control, security, waste management, logistics and ports among the CT45's application areas.

On commercial sites it is usually set up in one of these four ways, and the right one depends on who uses the entrance and what should happen when a plate is read.

ANPR cameras for car parks

Staff and visitor car parks

Reads plates at the entrance and opens the barrier for registered vehicles, with every movement logged.

Best for: offices and business parks with a known list of vehicles.

Worth knowing: visitors need adding to the permitted list, or a separate intercom or visitor route.

ANPR cameras for retail parks

Free-flow parking

One CT45 reads in both directions across a lane up to 7 metres wide, recording entry and exit without a barrier.

Best for: retail and customer car parks that need to monitor how long vehicles stay.

Worth knowing: the reads usually feed a third-party parking management system.

ANPR cameras for logistics hubs

Goods and service yards

Logs lorries and vans in and out, and can open a gate or barrier for approved vehicles.

Best for: warehouses, logistics and waste sites.

Worth knowing: dirty or damaged plates read less reliably, so two linked cameras reading front and rear plates can help.

ANPR cameras for industrial properties

Deliveries and visitors

Reads the plates of expected delivery and visitor vehicles, so a gate or barrier can open for pre-registered vehicles and every arrival is logged.

Best for: sites with booked deliveries or regular visitors.

Worth knowing: plates need adding before the vehicle arrives, so a booking process or intercom is useful for unexpected visitors.

Our engineers are local to the region, and we also work with national clients across the UK.

Systems we connect it to

TagMaster ANPR is rarely installed on its own. We plan it alongside the systems that act on each read and record what happened.

Retail and warehouse sites are among those we work with, from customer car parks to goods-in yards.

“Papworth Trust have worked with Advance Security since 2012 on all aspects of security maintenance works, including door control, intruder alarms, Net2 access systems and project works such as gate installations. We have found them professional and attentive in their approach and would recommend them as an organised service provider within the security industry.”
