Costs
What affects the cost of a commercial CCTV system?
No two sites cost the same to cover, which is why we survey before we quote. These are the things that move the price.
Number of cameras
Biggest factor
Each camera needs a position, cabling back to the recorder and setting up. Covering the areas that matter, rather than every corner, is the quickest saving.
Camera type
Varies
Fixed bullet and dome cameras cost least. Panoramic, multi-sensor and licence plate recognition cameras cost more, but one can often do the work of several.
Image quality and lighting
Varies
Higher resolution and better low-light performance add cost, and are worth it where you need to identify people or vehicles rather than just see movement.
Recording and storage
Scales with size
More cameras, higher resolution and longer retention all need more recorder storage. How long you keep footage should follow your data protection policy.
Cabling and the building
Site specific
Long cable runs, external positions and difficult buildings add time. Most modern cameras are powered through their network cable, which keeps the installation tidier.
Remote viewing and integration
Often required
Viewing on your phone, and linking CCTV to intruder alarms, access control or number plate recognition, add set-up time but make the system far more useful day to day.

Commercial CCTV
HD and IP CCTV systems for business
Commercial CCTV today is almost always IP based. Cameras record high definition footage digitally and send it over your network to a recorder, so you can watch live pictures, receive motion alerts and play back footage from a phone, tablet or PC, whether you are on site or not.
We supply and install HD, multi-sensor and panoramic cameras, and recommend each one from your premises, your risks and what you need the footage to show. Clear pictures in daylight and in low light are what make CCTV useful when you need to review an incident.

Remote viewing and integration
A CCTV system earns its keep in two ways: what you can see when you need to, and what it works alongside.
Remote viewing
Live pictures, motion alerts and instant playback on your phone, so owners and managers can check the site at any time, on site or off.
Linked to your other systems
CCTV can be linked to intruder alarms, access control and number plate recognition, so an alarm or a door event has a picture alongside it.
Not every site needs remote viewing. Where a simple recorded system does the job we will say so.
CCTV systems we install
Avigilon, i-PRO and Milestone
We install Avigilon and i-PRO cameras and Milestone XProtect video management software, and the choice follows your site rather than a preferred supplier.
Working with a small number of platforms properly, rather than a long list superficially, means our engineers know the systems they are commissioning and can still support them years after installation.
Avigilon
High definition and smart search
Avigilon suits sites that need very clear images and fast searching of recorded footage, and works alongside Avigilon access control where both are in use. We are certified Avigilon installers.
i-PRO
Dependable HD cameras
i-PRO, formerly Panasonic's security camera business, makes dependable HD cameras for commercial sites of all sizes.
Milestone
Video management software
Milestone XProtect brings cameras from different manufacturers onto one screen, which suits larger sites and multi-site estates.
Camera types
Commercial CCTV cameras for every area
The right camera depends on what each position needs to show: a face at a door, a number plate at a gate, or movement across a yard.
These four types cover most commercial sites, and most systems use a mix of them.

HD bullet cameras
Ultra HD bullet cameras give long, clear coverage and are ideal for detecting activity in low light.
Best for: car parks, perimeters, yards and building exteriors.
Worth knowing: a visible camera is a deterrent in its own right, and a bullet camera is the clearest sign that a site is covered.

Dome and micro dome cameras
Dome cameras give high image detail in a compact housing, and micro domes are small and discreet.
Best for: offices, corridors, receptions and building entrances.
Worth knowing: domes are harder to tamper with, and it is less obvious which way they are pointing.

Panoramic and multi-sensor cameras
Panoramic cameras cover 180 or 360 degrees, and multi-sensor cameras combine several lenses in one unit.
Best for: warehouses, shop floors, open-plan areas and large external spaces.
Worth knowing: one panoramic or multi-sensor camera can often replace several fixed cameras, which also cuts cabling.

LPR cameras
Licence plate recognition cameras capture the registration plates of vehicles entering and leaving your site.
Best for: car parks, gates and goods-in.
Worth knowing: LPR works well combined with access control, so authorised vehicles can be let in automatically. See our ANPR cameras page for more.

How an installation works
Quotations start with a free site visit. We look at the site, what you need the cameras to show and where the risks are, then design the system to suit the site and the budget rather than quoting blind.

SSAIB certified CCTV installers
Our CCTV installations are carried out under our SSAIB certification, which covers CCTV, intruder alarms and access control. If your insurer sets conditions on how your premises are protected, tell us at the survey stage so the design can take them into account, rather than leaving you to discover a shortfall at renewal.

Each sector has its own priorities, from identifying people at a busy entrance to covering stock, loading bays and external yards. We design around how the site is actually used.
“Our CCTV system was recently brought up to the latest high definition IP platform, and again Advance Security were there to provide the transition, ensuring the minimum down time. I would have no hesitation in recommending Advance Security, they have a can-do attitude, and are always on call at a moment's notice when we need them – any faults being resolved or repaired the same day.”

Frequently asked questions
Commercial CCTV is a video surveillance system designed for business premises such as offices, warehouses, retail units, schools and industrial sites. It deters crime, lets you see what is happening on site, and records evidence when something goes wrong. Paired with intruder alarms and access control, it gives you a complete picture of who is on your premises.
